Brett Stewart

Managing Partner OMD International

Successful navigation of the dynamic global marketing communications landscape requires unique client management experience.

With his extensive understanding of consumer insights, strategy and channel planning, Brett is responsible for leading the specialist OMD International team that delivers cutting edge communications solutions for our global and regional clients.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Brett has worked with multinational agency groups and media specialists in Sydney, Auckland, Jakarta, Singapore, New York, San Francisco and Hong Kong. With over twenty-five years in the marketing communications industry, Brett has extensive experience in the airline, travel, packaged goods, business-to-business, technology, beauty and luxury goods categories.

Brett’s rich and diverse experience gives him a rounded view of the agency and its operation, making him a true custodian of the OMD brand.

Gary Wong

General Manager

Strong leadership helps our teams work closer, look deeper and act faster. Gary has developed a culture at OMD Hong Kong that embraces the rapid growth of digital media, creating an integrated agency that is able to implement innovative ideas and solutions quicker.

His belief in strategic insights and new media has created the opportunity for OMD’s talent to grow within the agency. Gary promotes a work environment that sparks creativity, ensuring the production of smarter work.

Gary is a media veteran with over 20 years’ experience. He has worked in different roles from planning head, business development to the digital lead at major 4A’s agencies.

His wide experience across multiple local and international brands has provided the foundation for rapid growth and ensures agility and leadership in the ever changing media landscape.

Derek Yip

Head of Buying

Smarter agencies are built on a foundation of confidence and trust. At OMD HK, Derek leads a team of expert media buyers, who under his stewardship, have developed deeper relationships partners so we can offer our clients the very best of what’s out there. He is passionate about driving better value for his clients and has made OMD stronger by reacting quicker to market trends. This ensures the agency is able to offer bigger media clout for their clients and partners.

Derek began his career in the buying division of Ogilvy & Mather before joining Ammirati Puris Lintas where he had a leadership role in their new digital media planning & buying arm ‘APL Digital’. Derek was selected by the Hong Kong Productivity Council to participate in the ‘Internet Advertising Benchmarking Program’, which developed guidelines for optimal level media investments. In 2000 Derek joined the then named McCann Erickson Guangming and handled a number of flag ship accounts including - Cathay Pacific, Johnson and Johnson and Hang Seng Bank. When the agencies separated and the media arm became Universal McCann Hong Kong, Derek was brought in to lead and grow the buying team as Buying Director.

Derek’s 20+ years of experience and in depth knowledge of Hong Kong’s complex media landscape ensures that we can secure clients the maximum value from their investments.

Nick Barger

Digital Business Director

Becoming a leading digital agency in the market requires strong foresight, commitment and core competency.  With a creative approach to meeting client’s business objectives, Nick believes that no idea should be out of scope. At OMD Nick leads the digital strategy for a number of international brands including Virgin Atlantic and the Carlsberg Group. With an in-depth understanding of consumer trends, he collaborates closely with senior management to drive digital innovative thinking and integration across the agency.

Since moving to Hong Kong in 2007, Nick has become a leading advocate for digital media across Asia, speaking at a number of industry and client events. He began his Hong Kong career gaining valuable experience in a creative agency environment whilst working at Ogilvy One. Before joining OMD in 2014, Nick was the Regional Digital Director at ZentihOptimedia for the LVMH group. His global experience and industry leadership has transformed our clients’ relationships with digital, including spearheading award-winning campaigns.

Sandy Tan

Digital Business Director

Consumer desire is the core of all strategy communications. As Digital Business Director at OMD Hong Kong, Sandy leads a team to deliver digital capability, innovation and integration for clients including Estee Lauder Companies, Danone Group, and Warner Brothers. Sandy is responsible for driving new business and motivating the team’s digital talents to deliver impeccable strategy and engaging media solutions backed with strong data analytics and consumer desire.

With more than 13+ years of experience across agencies, client side and market research roles, Sandy joined OMD HK from Singapore, where she played an instrumental role in managing StarHub business - Singapore’s second largest telco. In this role, she helped drive strategy, integration (from offline to online) and streamline internal processes to improve work efficiency and cost savings for clients.

With high-level experience in the media industry, an aptitude for strategic thought and planning, and strong analytical ability, Sandy’s award-winning strategies start with consumer’s desire and end with client success.

Something my direct supervisor Derek said has always resonated with me. He told me ‘everyone has their own value and is unique. We have to observe people’s abilities and strengths and utilize them effectively.’
 
DIVERSE EXPERIENCES
A campaign I particularity enjoyed working on was for DBS Bank. We were targeting a luxury travel show and we partnered with the producers to include product integration within the program. We also got the presenters to promote the show via their social media accounts.

Music is a big inspiration for me at work. When I have lots of tasks to finish I listen to energetic music to help me power through.
 
EVOLUTION
I feel like I began my career as a baby and I have now become a guardian. I like to see myself as the elder sister in the team as I am always there to help support and guide.
 
SAGE ADVICE
A previous supervisor at OMD said ‘Treat you client’s business like it is your business’. This has really helped me prioritize my work and ensure I achieve excellence.

I studied Business Information Technologies and have had a variety of work experience in the industry. Before moving to OMD I was working at a digital creative agency and then an in-house digital management team.

I am very proud to be working at OMD, especially as OMD HK was named as Asia’s Smartest Media Agency for 2014 by WARC 100. We are like a big family and always spend time with colleagues outside work.

My degree was in Communications and Culture and I studied in Perth, Australia. After graduating I moved back to Hong Kong and began my career as a media buying exec at Starcom before joining OMD as part of the planning team.
 
INSPIRATION TACTICS
I am a very active person and enjoy all different kinds of exercise – particularly running and aerobics. I also have fun playing sports like badminton and hiking with friends.
 
EVOLUTION
I was very grateful to be given the opportunity by OMD to go to the HK4As tailor-made an AdSchool Training. It helped me learn more about the strategic planning process and gave me experience presenting to clients and working with other types of agencies.
