OMD Sydney has shuffled its leadership team structure, with a ‘head of group’ layer added across the office’s client base, with Rob Maddison also joining from Google.
The Omnicom Media Group agency said the move is to support the sustained growth the agency has built up over so many years, alongside offering “greater executive leadership and capability”.
Kim Hamilton, Sydney MD said: “We are thrilled to have so many brilliant OMDers who have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to our business. Expanding the ‘head of group’ structure across our entire client base strengthens our strategic leadership capability to deliver best-in-class partnerships for our clients.”
Maddison joined OMD this month into one of the head of group roles, adding to the five others that have been appointed as part of a “commitment to invest in its people”.
OMD has previously stated its commitment to promoting from within. This has been exemplified from its long history in appointing its leadership structure from existing members of the team, including all of its CEOs in recent history. Laura Nice and Sian Whitnall took on the co-CEO role in late 2021.
Nice added: “We welcome Rob into the OMD family and look forward to seeing the impact our expanded ‘Heads of Group’ structure will deliver for our Sydney office. Having such a strong leadership team working alongside the OMD executive team will help deliver our evolved performance with integrity ambition to drive partnerships of value, sustainable ways of working and purpose for both our people and our partners.”
OMD said the heads of group structure has already been successfully implemented in other OMD markets including Melbourne. The move in Sydney includes heads of group for McDonald’s, Suncorp and Telstra, and now the rest of the Sydney client base.
Maddison said of joining OMD: “I’m excited to be joining such a strong leadership team, bringing my experience from client-side into the agency. The culture and values that OMD embodies align perfectly for me, and I look forward to contributing to that, for our people and clients.”
The head of group team reports in to Hamilton and general manager Amanda Watts.
OMD and sister agency PHD recently made the switch to its new office in South Eveleigh in Sydney, with the site officially opening today, 11 July.
2022 is proving to be a year of client movement focus for OMD, with the agency down to the final two in the race for the consolidated NSW government account, as well as the final two as it seeks to hold onto the Coles account in Melbourne.
